Qpfcalc is a Qt frontend for pfcalc, a CLI pipe friction calculator. This program is similar to gpfcalc, the GTK+ frontend for pfcalc. There are two versions of Qpfcalc, one for Windows and one for Linux. The Linux version should be easy to compile and run on any Unix-like operating system with few minor modifications. For the application to function properly the pfcalc backend must be installed. Also, for ods import/export the zip and unzip utilities must be installed. For the Windows version this is not needed as Qpfcalc is distributed along with all the files needed to run, including pfcalc, Qt libraries and the zip/unzip utilities.

The Qpfcalc application can be used to calculate the pipe friction losses for a given piping system. There is no limitation for the number of pipes that can be defined. While the pfcalc back-end is more flexible, the Qpfcalc front-end is more user friendly. Qpfcalc uses its own file format, pipe friction calculation (pfc files). This is a simple xml based file format used for storing the pipe data, the current fluid, a description and current date and time.
Data can be imported/exported from/to spreadsheet programs through comma separated values files (csv files) and open document spreadsheet files (ods files).

When importing data from ods files some restrictions apply:
1. Data is read from the first 7 columns (A to G) of the first sheet (e.g. Sheet1).
2. The first row is ignored (it is supposed to be the table header).
3. If a cell is empty it will be given the value 0.001.
4. Formatting is always ignored.
