Calcute was designed to be a compact yet functional calculator that does not clutter your computer screen. The application window's minimal interface can appear as a small, single-line edit field. Or it can expand into a long tape of calculations. You can either show or hide the keypad.

In spite of its small size, Calcute is quite functional. Many rounding errors common to computer hardware are avoided using software arithmetic. You can edit compound expressions as plain text before evaluating them. In multi-line mode your calculations do not disappear when you enter the next one, all information is retained. You can verify and correct past work, then easily re-do your calculations with new values. The editable work area stretches to any size and retains as much data as you want. You can also save everything to a file for later retrieval.

Calcute Features:
1. You can enter exact rational values like 2 1\3 instead of a decimal approximation like 2.333333333 that truncates the true value.
2. You can work in binary, octal and hexadecimal number bases, and not only with integers, but fractional numbers too, even those expressed in scientific notation.
3. You can make Calcute big or small. The work area is where you enter all calculations and receive results. It can be set to single-line mode to look like a plain calculator. It can be set to multi-line mode for more editing flexibility.
4. You can annotate your work. Type anything but hold down the Ctrl key while you press Enter.
5. You can save your work to a text file, either on request or automatically each time you exit Calcute.
6. You can select any font you like. You can select the button size.
7. You can set the calculator window to be always on top. You can pick a preferred screen position where Calcute always opens, or just retain the last position used.
8. You can change the default hot key used to start the program.
9. You can be precise. Software arithmetic is used for non-transcendental operations in order to avoid common rounding errors that occur when calculations rely entirely on hardware.
