Do you have several hard disks in your computer? Do you have the experience that a prartition of your hard disk remains few free space? Ever wanted to know where all the used space on your hard disk was hiding? Do you want to know which folder or file occupied your valuable space? Is time to find a handy and easy to use hard disk space manager? Here I commend you a great hard disk space manager which I have used for a long time. That is i.Disk which was published by MemeCode. Do you have the same requirement as me? i.Disk is an ideal solution for you. Give it a try and you will like it soon. Below is the detailed introduction of this helpful and powerful utility.
i.Disk scans directory trees and displays the total space used by each directory in an easy to use form. i.Disk counts the size of subdirectories including all their contents, and then lists their size in descending order. The program is simple, yet useful for tracking down where the space is being used on our hard drives. We can drill down into the directories to understand the layout of space. And when we want to clean up our disk there are same handy tools there to help.
i.Disk offers the option to delete selected folders or file (with wildcard support). While there are better disk management tools, this one to be particular useful to track down empty folders, left behind from software installations. i.Disk is easy to use really, following are some usage of this hard disk tool, such as: Browse to a directory -or- click on one of the disks listed on the left to start scanning. Once the scan is complete the red cancel button will grey out. The entry marked "." relates to the files in the directory our scanning from and not any of the subdirectories. If we attempt to delete this then we will be deleting the directory we scanning from and all files and folders contained within. This is probably not what we intended.
Especially if we scanning a whole disk (i.e. C:). Then we can open any sub-directories by clicking the "+" next to the name. Each entry in the list has a right click menu to: "Touch..." - This sets the modified time on a set of files in the subdirectory and all it is children to the current time. We can specify multiple extensions by separating with space character, e.g.: *.gif *.png *.html. "Delete Files..." - This deletes some or all of the files in the subdirectory and all it is children. The directories are left intact. We can specify multiple extensions by separating with space character. "Delete Directory..." - This deletes all of the files and directories in the subdirectory then removes the subdirectory as well.
The latest version of i.Disk is 1.91 and the newest functions and features of it include: Support for detecting when removable drive are inserted/removed. Made the deletion of files to the trash much faster by batching the deletes in one hit instead of 1 file per delete. Put up a "working..." dialog (with a Cancel button) while an action is being completed. Added a pane in the status bar so that when we click a drive it gives the amount of free space and the total drive space. Added "Browse" to the folder right click menu to open explorer at the selected folder. Added delete files/directory. Added tree view to pick drives. Added graph of folder sizes and so on.
