TimeTraveler installation program restarts Windows Explorer and opens an Explorer window with your Documents folder. At this point, Explorer is configured to load the TimeTraveler Timeline automatically. You can change this behavior on the General Tab of the configuration window.

1. Timeline
The timeline is populated with points-in-time when the Windows Explorer address refers to a local fixed disk and that disk contains volume shadow copies. When the address is not a local fixed disk TimeTraveler is not loaded.
When the Windows Explorer address is the root of a file system it is populated with all its points-in-time, each being a shadow copy. TimeTraveler displays two types of shadow copies: restore-points (dark green) and non-restore-points (dark blue). Restore points are shadow copies that can be used to restore the system.

2. How to Configure Your Shadow Copies
The configuration form allows you to configure Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on each volume (hard disk) of your computer. You can open the form by clicking the blue button located to the right of the TimeTraveler timeline. The form shows information about the volume currently displayed in Windows Explorer. Other volume information is accessible by clicking the Next and Previous buttons. The volumes are individually configurable.

3. Comparing Points-in-time
TimeTravelerTM allows you to compare document versions from different points-in-point. Open a Windows Explorer window and select the file or folder you are interested in. Upon selection TimeTravelerTM computes at which points-in-time the file or folder was changed. The dark time markers on the timeline are times at which the selection was changed. This guides you when selecting the times you want to use for the comparison. Use the mouse to drag the time cursor on the first point-in-time you want to use and then left-click on it. It will become orange to indicate that it is selected for comparison. Second, drag the time cursor on the second point-in-time you want to use for the comparison. Third, right-click on the Explorer selection in the list view and select "Compare Points-in-time". Figure 1 shows how to compare a prior point-in-time version with the current one. You can compare any two points-in-time. TimeTravelerTM opens up the best comparison program it can find on your machine for the type of file you have selected.
