The first TacticalPad's window is always a new project. There are two possible flows:
1. Begin editing the project by creating tactical formations and/or animated plays;
2. Open an existing project by pressing in the menu located at the bottom-left of the windows.

At any time, just press to save the current project. If it is a new project, the save as dialog will appear, select the folder and the filename and press the Save button.
