Quantum GIS
|
Cross-platform and user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS). Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. QGIS supports vector, raster, and database formats. QGIS is licensed under the GNU Public License.
View and overlay vector and raster data in various formats and projections without conversion to an internal or common format.
Supported formats include:
1. spatially-enabled PostgreSQL tables using PostGIS and SpatiaLite,
2. most vector formats supported by the OGR library*, including ESRI shapefiles, MapInfo, SDTS and GML.
3. raster formats supported by the GDAL library*, such as digital elevation models, aerial photography or landsat imagery,
4. GRASS locations and mapsets,
5. online spatial data served as OGC-compliant WMS or WFS;
Create maps and interactively explore spatial data with a friendly graphical user interface. The many helpful tools available in the GUI include:
1. on the fly projection,
2. print composer,
3. overview panel,
4. spatial bookmarks,
5. identify/select features,
6. edit/view/search attributes,
7. feature labeling,
8. vector diagram overlay
9. change vector and raster symbology,
10. add a graticule layer,
11. decorate your map with a north arrow, scale bar and copyright label,
12. save and restore projects
Create, edit and export spatial data using:
1. digitizing tools for GRASS and shapefile formats,
2. the georeferencer plugin,
3. GPS tools to import and export GPX format, convert other GPS formats to GPX, or down/upload directly to a GPS unit
Perform spatial analysis using the fTools plugin for Shapefiles or the integrated GRASS plugin, including:
1. map algebra,
2. terrain analysis,
3. hydrologic modeling,
4. network analysis,
5. and many others
Publish your map on the internet using the export to Mapfile ability (requires a webserver with UMN MapServer installed)
Adapt Quantum GIS to your special needs through the extensible plugin architecture.
Requirements:
* Qt 4.2.2 is required (comes with the installer package).
* The Expat XML Parser is required for the GPS plugin.
* The raster georeferencer plugin requires the GNU Scientfic Library (GSL).
* SQLite is always required.
