Qnet Software Suite
|
Qnet Software Suite is a utility suite designed to automate the tasks of scheduling and playing songs, spots, jingles, reports, and other types of services present at a radio broadcasting station. A special accent has been put on the networking abilities - and thereafter the name Qnet. The system is designed to manage an entire network of stations connected via ISDN lines or LAN.
Software structure
1. Qnet Radio Automation Suite is a series of stand-alone applications. It does not need any database engine or other service to be installed. The database engine is present in the program itself.
2. Qnet Studio is the main software for on-air. It plays the programmed list of songs, spots, jingles and other audio files. The list of audio files to be played can be prepared in the Studio software itself or in the Database application. Database is more conformable for preparing playlists, where Studio is more conformable for making last minute changes. When nothing has been prepared, Studio can play songs and jingles in a random fashion, looking at the song type for songs selection (see the Options/Automatic playlist menu entry).
3. Qnet Database is the software for entering songs, jingles, spots and other files into the database. It is also used for preparing events, that have to be played at predetermined times (blocks) and for preparing playlists, which can be inserted manually or utomatically in the on-air program.
4. Qnet Recorder is a general purpose audio recorder with some additional features, such as a simple editor and recording timers.
5. Qcd is a very simple software used to digitally extract audio from CD-s. It processes always the entire CD, because many times this is the less time consuming method for audio extraction, because the operator has only to switch CD-s during extraction and he/she can do other jobs in the meantime. For more advanced features, a lot of free and very qualitative program is already available on the Internet.
6. MP2Encoder is a MPEG L2 encoding software. It automatically encodes every file found in its input directory. The MPEG L2 stream produced contains audio level information in the ancillary data of MPEG frames in order to allow fast editing of the files. Layer 2 files are a better choice for radio automation applications, because they are simpler to edit then layer 3 files, all the Digigram audio cards, also the older ones (the most used professional audio cards for such applications) can decode them in hardware and they are definitely an established standard for radio automation.
7. Logworks is used to process the log files generated by Qnet Studio and to present them in a more readable form, generating also spots reports and a list of the most played songs during a period.
