Centralized Administration tool for Protector Plus. Protector Plus Console (PPC), is a sophisticated management module that makes the task of administering Protector Plus anti-virus program installed in a Microsoft network, extremely simple.
PPC is supplied as a compressed, self-extracting file. Download this file to a temporary folder. Execute this file to install PPC onto the domain. PPC works with Protector Plus for Windows 95/98/Me, Protector Plus for Windows NT/2000/XP and Protector Plus for Exchange. These products function as clients for PPC.
Setting up Protector Plus Console
Download and copy the PPC file to a temporary folder in any system running Windows NT/2000/XP, that is connected to the domain. Run the downloaded file, ppc.exe. This will install PPC on the primary domain controller. PPC will only install on a Windows NT/2000 server, which is designated as a domain controller on the network. The Registration information sent by us are required to complete the installation. PPC cannot be installed without registering the product.
On installation, PPC creates a folder titled PROTECTOR PLUS CONSOLE. It also creates a group, Protector Plus Console, under Programs.
1. Rolling out Protector Plus anti-virus program to clients in the network
Launch Protector Plus Monitor which is under Programs->Protector Plus Console. Protector Plus anti-virus program can be rolled out across the network using the Deploy feature of Protector Plus Console. To roll out Protector Plus anti-virus software, click Deploy. Select the users from various domain groups that are listed in the Deploy screen. Protector Plus anti-virus program will be installed on all the systems the next time any configured user logs on to the domain.
2. Ensuring Protector Plus anti-virus program are constantly updated
The InstaUpdate feature of Protector Plus Console ensures that the latest version of Protector Plus is installed on all the clients. It does this by comparing the version on our web site with the one installed on the clients. If an updated version is found on our web site, then InstaUpdate automatically downloads it and pushes the update to all the clients. The frequency at which InstaUpdate will check for the updates can be configured.
3. Groups
Groups consisting of clients systems on which Protector Plus anti-virus program is installed can be created and managed through Protector Plus Console. These groups created by Protector Plus Console are distinct from the user groups of the domain. These groups are for the purpose of enforcing uniform Protector Plus anti-virus program settings across all users in that group. When these settings are enforced, all the systems under the group will have uniform Protector Plus configurations. Changes effected to the group settings will be reflected immediately on all the systems configured under the group.
4. Reports
Protector Plus Console can maintain a log of various events related to Protector Plus anti-virus program installed in the network. These reports are useful in managin the anti-virus software.
