PowerPad is a lightweight text editor with a few extra features such as a toolbar, auto-indent, and the capability of loading files larger than 64 KB.

What is the difference between PowerPad and other text editors?
The goal of PowerPad is not necessarily to have an innumerable amount of features or to support every single platform in existence. The goal of PowerPad is to be a text editor that is low on memory, easy to use, but also capable of simple text-editing tasks like search/replace. PowerPad also supports auto-indent and line numbering to help those using it to edit source code.

Is PowerPad really free?
PowerPad is 100% free. There is no cost to download it or use it. You may also use it for commercial purposes if you wish. You do not have to pay a fee of any kind.

When I first launch PowerPad, why does my firewall pop up a warning?
This is because PowerPad is designed to check for updates each time it starts. If you do not wish for PowerPad to check for updates, simply go to Tools->Options and deselect 'Check for updates at startup'. You will still be able to check for updates manually by going to Help->Check for Updates. When PowerPad checks for updates, it does not send any information from your computer. It simply asks the PowerPad server if there is a new version, and if so, it will ask you if you wish to download and install the update.
