Pliny
|
A utility that facilities note-taking and annotation. Pliny is a software that works with annotations or notes that you gather as you are reading -- arguably the starting point for much personal scholarly research in the humanities. It can be used with both digital (web sites, images and PDF files) and non-digital (books, printed journal articles) materials. The text of the annotation can be anything that you wish to record -- indeed, whatever strikes you about the material you are reading is fair game.
Pliny is a software to support widespread established (and non-digital) scholarly research practice. It focuses on the scholarly acts of:
1. reading and reacting to that reading, and
2. developing an interpretation which arises from that reading.
It aims to bring the benefits of computing to existing scholarly practice rather than requiring the user to adopt new strategies to benefit.
