Shapes are created by dragging from the 'Shape Collections' pane and dropped into the drawing canvas on the right. After being dropped in to the canvas, shape attributes can be changed in many ways.
A Pencil document contains multiple pages. Each page in the document is a drawing canvas that: has a title, is sized at a specific size and may have an another page as its background.
Each Pencil document can be saved in a single XML-based file with the .ep extension. The .ep file format specification are being composed and will be published right after the preparation is done. The .ep file format will be made open and can be used with absolutely no restrictions.
Along with shapes created using stencils that are installed in the Shape Collections pane, external objects including images and rich texts can also be included in a Pencil document.
Pencil supports inserting of external objects into its document in the two most practical ways: copy/paste and drag/drop.
