Pegasus Mail

Pegasus Mail is a free, standards-based electronic mail client suitable for use by single or multiple users on single computers or on local area networks. It has special support for Novell NetWare LANs that allow it to operate intuitively and with almost no maintenance. Pegasus Mail gives you multiple viewing options; automated rule-based filtering and content control; MailMerge and distribution list functions; support for SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, LDAP, and PH protocols; comprehensive HTML mail generation; address lists with aliasing functions; and even a spelling checker.
How to configure POP before SMTP in Pegasus Mail
1. Launch Pegasus Mail and go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options
2. In the Internet options window flip over to the Sending/SMTP tab. Select the SMTP host that requires POP before SMTP and click Edit.
3. On the "General" tab set the "Server TCP/IP port" to "587 if you are not on your webhosts network and they allow SMTP submission port access and go ahead and up the timeout to 60 seconds.
4. On the "Security" tab set the SSL/TLS settings to Never unless your host requires/supports it. Look towards the bottom and check the box for "Do a prior POP3 login to authenticate before sending mail" then click the "Select" button for "Using this POP3 definition" and select the pop account that belongs with this SMTP account. Click OK on everything when done and enjoy trouble free sending.
Caveats:
1. Most hosts give you only a five minute window to send mail after checking in the pop-before-smtp authentication scheme.
2. Some anti-virus programs will break pop before smtp by proxying the pop and smtp connections running them out of order. Try turning off outbound email scanning if you still receive relaying denied messages after making these changes.
How to setting up IMAP:
From the Pegasus toolbar, select Tools, IMAP profiles. You will be placed in a window like the one shown here. In the example I have already created two profiles (I have two different Email accounts in IMAP servers). In the first time this window will not have any IMAP profiles. You will need to click on New to create your first (or only) profile. Once you create a profile, you can double-click on it to connect to the IMAP server and access your folders. Of course, you can edit or delete this profile after it is created.
You start by giving a name to the profile (in our example was ubmail), then enter the IMAP server name, your username and password (password is not required and for security reasons you may omit). The other settings shown in the example (which work with UBMail) will depend of your server and if you want to open connection to the server at startup.
Pegasus Mail does all the basics of Email extremely well, and far more than that... This list is by no means comprehensive - it concentrates on the highlights.
1. Multilingual availability - available with fully-translated French, German and Italian interfaces, as well as English.
2. Security, security, security: Pegasus Mail protects you from even the worst HTML-borne virus and trojans, and protects your privacy by intercepting web bugs. Pegasus Mail is immune to *all* the exploits that affect the "other" mailer - browse your mail with genuine confidence.
3. View your folders in either a multi-pane mode (like the "other" mailer) or in Pegasus Mail's strong "classic" mode, where each folder has its own window and can be manipulated separately. Switching between these views is as simple as clicking a single button.
4. Mail filtering; Pegasus Mail pioneered this in 1991, and it's still the most strong implementation of automated rule-based filtering you'll find in a mail client.
5. Bayesian filtering - Pegasus Mail's built-in Spamhalter Bayesian filter learns from the spam you receive and automatically files it in your junk folder.
6. Content control allows you to apply comprehensive rules to trap spam and unwanted mail
