Easily manipulate running processes. PTool provides a way to manipulate running processes from the command line or from shell scripts.

PTool accepts several arguments. Running PTool with no arguments will list all running processes and exit. Arguments are not case-sensitive. Arguments follow the pattern: (modifier) (action) (target). 'Modifier' modifies the default behavior of PTool, for example the 'silent' modifier. The 'action' parameter specifies what action, for example 'kill' or 'find', should be taken. 'Target' is the search string or process ID which matches the process(es) to be affected.

PTool will fail to modify a process if it cannot access it. In this event, an error will be printed telling you why access was not granted.

Care should be taken when using PTool against a search string instead of a process ID number: confirm that the matched processes are indeed the processes you wish to modify before confirming.

PTool accepts several arguments. Running PTool with no arguments will list all running processes and exit. Arguments are not case-sensitive. Valid Arguments:
1. (none)
prints a list of all running processes and exits

2. find <name> (/f)
prints a list of all processes whose name matches the passes search string

3. info <name>|<id> (/i)
prints a list of all processes whose name matches the passes search string

4. infoall (/ia)
Same as above, but for all processes

5. kill <name>|<id> (/k)
With a process ID number, kills the specified process. With a search string, kills the process(es) which match the string.

6. suspend <name>|<id> (/z)
With a process ID number, suspends the specified process. With a search string, suspends all processes which match the string.

7. resume <name>|<id> (/a)
With a process ID number, resumes the specified process. With a search string, resumes all processes which match the string.

8. restart <name>|<id>
With a process ID number, kills then restarts the specified process. With a search string, kills then restarts all processes which match the string.

9. duplicate <name>|<id>
With a process ID number, starts a new instance of the specified process executable. With a search string, starts new instances of the executables for all processes which match the string.

10. silent (/s)
Suppresses all output and assumes 'yes' to all prompts. Must be the first argument

11. fromtitle <action> <partial title> (/t)
Performs the specified action (for example, 'kill') on all processes with window titles matching the passed partial title. Titles containing spaces must be enclosed in quotes. When finding processes based on window titles, ptool will NOT match against itself for its parent process (usually cmd.exe) despite the fact that they might match the pattern.

12. listwindows <name>|<id>|none (/w)
With a process ID number, lists all windows owned by the specified process.
With a search string, lists all windows which match the string, ordered by the owning process.
With no argument, lists all windows on the current desktop, ordered by the owning process.

13. help (/?)
14. version (/v)
prints version information
