The key tools and features of NetGadgets include:

1. Net Testing Tools - Ping: The Ping tool sends and retrieves packets of information to and from a remote host, and uses time and transmission statistics to let us know if we have a successful connection and how fast the connection is running.

2. Trace Route: The Trace Route tool shows the path our connection takes from our computer to the destination server. Rarely is this a direct connection. Most of the time we will pass through several different hosts before we arrive at our destination. The Trace Route command will show us all the hosts along the way.

3. Name Scan: Name Scan will allow us to test multiple IP addresses and determine the domain name associated with it.

4. Ping Scan: Ping Scan will allow us to test multiple IP addresses to verify that we can reach them from our network. It sends and receives a packet of information to and from a remote computer, and uses time and transmission statistics to let us know if we have a successful connection and how fast the connection is running. We can also determine the IP address of the machine that is actually responding to the ping request, and the domain name associated with the IP address queried.

5. Port Scan: This tool can be used to locate various Internet services available on the target machine.

6. Service Scan: Will check a range of domains or IP Addresses for a specific service port. This can be used to discover a Web server or other service.

7. Echo Plus: The Echo Plus tool allows us to send data to different TCP/IP services. It is useful for debugging. An Echo service simply sends back to the originating source any data it receives. We can also send data to a different TCP/IP Service port.

8. Email Verify: The Email Verify tool can be used to determine if an email address is valid. The tool will find out the mail exchange servers for a domain and try to connect to each one and see if it could deliver mail to the mailbox. HTML Test: The HTML Test Tool will connect to a HTML server and test the speed of transfer of the target Web page.

9. Character Generator: The Character Generator Tool is a useful debugging and measurement tool. A character generator service sends a stream of data once a connection is established. It continues until the connection is broken.

10. Net Query Tools - NS Lookup: Name Server LookUp is used to resolve a Hostname or IP Address. It will also show us possible aliases. The new release can now return a full range of records from the Domain Name Server; including MX, CNAME, and Host Address records. Domain Search: The Domain Search Tool can be used to obtain registration information for a domain. IP Search: The IP Search Tool can be used to obtain registration information for an IP Address.

11. WhoIs: We use the "WhoIs" command to search for people who have registered themselves on a WhoIs server, and supply us with information about that person, such as how to contact them. We can also use "WhoIs" to lookup domain names, to see if they are registered and find the contact information.

12. Time: The Time Tool enables us to automatically set the computer's system clock to any of a number of time services available via the Internet or our corporate intranet. It supports multiple servers, and multiple time service protocols.

13. DayTime: The Time Tool enables us to check the system clock of a computer server available via the Internet or our corporate intranet.

14. Finger: The Finger Tool identifies specific users on the Internet. We use the "Finger" command to search for specific users on a remote machine. It can tell us the names of the users currently logged in, or give us information on a specific user. Quote of the Day: Use the Quote of the Day Tool to view the Quote of the Day from a Quote server.

15. Local Testing Tools - Active Connections: The Active Connections tool displays all current TCP/IP network connections on our computer.

16. Network Statistics: The Network Statistics tool displays per-protocol statistics for our computer.

17. Route Table: Displays the contents of the routing table for our computer.

18. ARP Scan: The ARP Scan tool will perform Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) operations for the local computer. It will return the ARP address for a target IP and can also obtain the Best Interface and Best Route information.

19. Local IP Info: The Local IP Information tool displays the local computer IP Network Information.
