The NTFS Permissions Explorer MMC SnapIn provides reporting functionality for the NT File System in many different ways; Single Folder - View the File System Permissions for a single folder. This functionality will display all the information regarding the Access Control List for the selected folder.

The Permissions View simply shows every Access Control Entry present within the Access Control List for the specified local or remote directory.
This view shows the group domain\name, if access if allowed, the propagation and the access level for each permission entry.
Note: The special permission granularity is represented in a single or double character format.

Functionality
Right Clicking on any of the permission entries will display the following options
1. Show Selected - Displays the full granularity of the permission
2. Search Tree - Adds a search node to recursively searches from the current directory showing the permission that the selected group holds on each directory
3. Search Drive - Adds a search node to recursively searches from the current base directory showing the permission that the selected group holds on each directory
4. Custom Search - Adds a search node to recursively searches from any specified local or remote directory showing the permission that the selected group holds on each directory
5. Members - Shows the Members of the selected group
6. Members Of - Shows the groups that the selected group is a member of
7. Note: After a Search has been selected a new node will appear under the 'Search' Node within the left pane. To start the search process you must go and select the node.

By default the application will only show subfolders that have permissions that differ from their parent object, but allows for a verbose reload showing everything. This view also allows for the user to apply a custom filter to remove Groups/Users to remove unwanted information.

In the same way as the Single Folder View, this view also displays Special Permissions by a quick character representation. Custom Searches - View a selected User/Groups effective permission on a specified directory and all its sub directories. When performing a custom search, Special Permissions will also be displayed by the same quick character representation. Please Note: This application only allows for reporting of File System Permissions and in no way offers the functionality to modify them.
