NCSA Mosaic for Mozilla Firefox. NCSA Mosaic was the first popular graphical web browser. Combining in-line images and audio with the multi-color, hyperlinked text, and a Session History manager was a major breakthrough when it was released in late 1993. It is the grandfather of both Microsoft Internet Explorer and the outstanding uncle of Mozilla Firefox, and much of it's style and features have been mimicked and updated by every major web browser available today.

The goal of this theme is to recreate the look and feel of NCSA Mosaic 2 running on Windows 95. I suppose that may seem like a strange thing, but my interest is two-fold: I love using a theme that takes me back to 1994-1995 when I was messing around on the early internet, and secondly I think it's interesting to see how little has actually changed in terms of web-browser design and features in 15 years. Hotlists have become Bookmarks, Newsgroups have become RSS feeds, What's New has become Digg, and the Session Manager and Cache have become the History.

All of the internal icons and button styles are "borrowed" from Windows 95. The main toolbar icons and Library icons are taken from Mosaic 2 and 3 and Spry Air Mosaic. I created several new icons based on the style of the original Mosaic and Windows 95 icons. Large icons mode displays the size icons used in Mosaic 1 and 2 for Windows and small icons mode displays them the size they appeared in Mosaic 3 for Windows.
