ListeningNowTracker - Shows on Skype profile what music you are listening on Spotify and MediaPlayer. When you are listening music on Spotify (MS MediaPlayer supported also), Spotify can optionally update your Last.FM account to keep track of the music you have played. Spotify can also update MS Messenger account in real time to show I'm listening now ThisSong made by ThisArtist type of text. Unfortunately Spotify doesn't do this for Skype.

Spotify is an online music player and content store. On the other hand Last.fm is a outstanding community based music statistics database (what have you and others played and recommendations based on that statistical data). Fortunately Spotify player supports out-of-the-box linking with Last.fm accounts, so whatever you listen on Spotify is tracked by your own Last.fm profile.

This is nice because you get recommendations to other bands and artists you might like. Some people would like to show the currently played music track (artist and song title) in instant messaging systems also. Spotify supports linking with MSN-Messenger tool, but not with Skype tool.

This software links Spotify and Skype together in a way that the title of the currently playing song is shown as a "mood text" in Skype profile.

This software sits in between Spotify and Skype. When ever Spotify starts to play a new track, the software updates the "Mood text" property of your Skype profile. This text is shown to other "Skype people" right next to your name.

How this work?
When you play a music track in Spotify, it sends out "new track" events to applications registered to listen these messages. This software listens this Windows event.
Input parameter of the event is song title and artist name. ListeningNowTracker software then updates the "mood text" property of the active Skype profile using Skype OLE API programming interface (Skype4COM).
You can control the format of the "Listening now" text through INI file. By default there is "Listening songTitle by artist from Spotify" format mask.

How to use it?
Start Spotify and Skype business as usual. If you want to keep track of Spotify tracks in Skype then start this software also (doesn't matter in which order you start these apps). That's it.

Do I need to change something in Spotify or Skype?
No. Spotify or your Spotify account doesn't require any changes or configurations. Spotify sends automatically these "new track" events.
Skype and Skype account doesn't have to be changed either, except that for the first time you have to grant ListeningNowApplication a permission to update mood text of Skype profile at runtime.

INSTALLATION
1. Make sure you have Spotify (or Windows MediaPlayer if you want to show those tracks in Skype)
2. Unzip the archive file to, for example, "c:\program files\ListeningNowTracker\" folder.
3. Start "ListeningNowTracker.exe" application, Skype and Spotify (doesn't matter in which order).
4. When Skype detects for the first time that "ListeningNowTracker" software wants to use Skype application, it throws the "External software wants to use Skype" warning message. You have to open Skype and click "Approve" option to allow this software to use Skype services. You can manage these permissions in Skype Preferences dialogbox if you missed the first approval event (Skype | Tools | Options | Advanced | "Manage other program's access to Skype")

That's all. Start playing music in Spotify and see how your Skype "mood text" is automatically updated. Well, in a normal case that's all. Sometimes there could be, believe it or not, some problems. Here are the most typical cases.
