Lightstreamer is a scalable and reliable push engine for live data distribution. Based on the AJAX-Comet paradigm it streams real-time data to any HTML browser without the need to download or install anything on the client and without page reloads. Lightstreamer can also feed any traditional thick client through one of the client APIs. The optimized use of HTTP together with bandwidth control and adaptive streaming techniques result in a robust and efficient live data delivery, passing through proxies and firewalls.

Lightstreamer Server is the push engine that handles the physical connections with the clients and streams data through the HTTP protocol. It is a stand-alone process that does not rely on a Web server or an software server. In this way the Server has direct control over the TCP/IP stack and the threading model, in order to optimize the data transmission and improve scalability.

Lightstreamer Server runs on any platform compatible with Java SE (versions 1.4, 5.0, 6.0) including: Microsoft Windows , Linux , Sun Solaris .

Lightstreamer Web Client API is compatible with a very broad set of Web browsers, including: Microsoft Internet Explorer , Firefox , Safari , Opera. The Web Client API is also compatible with many AJAX toolkits and frameworks, including: TIBCO General Interface , Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX, Dojo. Lightstreamer is a member of the OpenAjax Alliance.
