I am a web site administrator; maintaining and updating the contents of web site are my daily work. Uploading renewed contents to web site is a trying and endless work for me. I usually make mistakes and the slow upload speed almost make me crazy. It is time to look for a quick and powerful FTP client. But which I should select among the lots of products on the market Thank for a friend of mine who commend me a powerful and easy to use multithreading FTP client. That is LeechFTP. Did you hear about it It is an ideal solution for network administrators and web sites engineers. Do you have the same troubles as me LeechFTP is the best choice for you.

LeechFTP is a free FTP client with loads of features. Its attractive interface features five distinct sections: local file listing, remote listing, download queue, logging information, and an excellent toolbar. Among the program more-outstanding features are support for resumed downloads and multithreading for simultaneous file transfers. Drag and drop a few files onto our local folder, and they all start downloading at once, with separate progress meters for each. The download queue lets us visit different FTP sites while our files are being transferred, and a provided viewer lets us explore the contents of Zip and Rar archives.

The main features and benefits of LeechFTP include: LeechFTP Unique FTPSearch Feature: One of LeechFTP most unique -- and most useful -- features is FTPSearch. FTPSearch contacts the ftpsearch.ntnu.no FTP search engine and enables us to find files on FTP servers across the Internet. LeechFTP FTPSearch interface displays all successful finds for us directly within the client itself, making it easy to begin downloading found files. Like the FTPSearch Web site, the FTPSearch feature in LeechFTP also uses the HTTP protocol for requests, so it gives us the same results as the Web site does.

LeechFTP also sports a beautiful interface. The clean and attractive three-pane layout makes using the client thoroughly enjoyable. In addition to its side-by-side panes for our local and remote sites, LeechFTP also sports a specialized tabbed window that displays files in our transfer queue, information on concurrent threads running in the background, recent successful downloads, and recent failed downloads. A URL Snatch feature that automatically begins downloading any file copied into our clipboard (i.e. clipboard monitoring), traybar icon support, an automatic update feature, proxy/firewall support, basic file comparison capabilities, a timer feature, file and directory upload/downloading, and an integrated archive viewer for compressed ZIP and RAR archives round out LeechFTP impressive set of features. Additional Features in LeechFTP include: Additional features in LeechFTP include multithreading capabilities (which allow us to upload/download multiple files simultaneously -- even when on different servers), the ability to queue files for later transfer, SmartResume (automatically resumes interrupted file transfers), HTTP file downloading capabilities, bandwidth limiting options, and customizable sounds (play different sounds when connecting, downloading, uploading, URL snatching, or after a failed download).

However, LeechFTP has its limitations, including: Despite a well-rounded feature set and the unique FTPSearch feature, a number of advanced features found in other FTP clients are absent in FTPSearch. The most glaring omission is the lack of usability features like one-click saving of remote and local directories so that you do not have to type them in manually. LeechFTP also lacks a pre-configured listing of public FTP sites, a configurable toolbar, site filtering options, server to server transfers, macro capabilities, intra-site bookmarks (for jumping between directories), and file synchronization capabilities.

Although no longer developed (or supported), LeechFTP still has a few positives going for it, most notably its price. LeechFTP is available free of charge - one of the few FTP clients currently available on the net that is free.

In addition, LeechFTP is free for us and it does not contain any adware or spyware and we can use it safely and undisturbed. It works with Win98/ME/2000/XP and its current version is 1.3.1.207.
