KnitBird is a drawing program designed to create knitting patterns. The program allows you to design your own patterns easily and then publish them as PDF files.

When KnitBird opens you are given the option to create new recipe. You can also click on File and New in the menu. In the dialog that opens you can give your new pattern a name and set the size of it in stitches and rows.

You can open an image file from your computer and convert it into a pattern. Your recipes are saved as special type of files. You can add patterns to your recipe, they will be included in the recipe file.

You can print your recipe and save it as PDF file. To change pattern settings click on Pattern and Settings in the menu. You can change the pattern name and the number of stitches and rows.

You can rotate or mirror your pattern selection. To mirror or rotate your selection click Pattern and Mirror vertically, Mirror horizontally, Rotate clockwise or Rotate counter-clockwise in the main menu.

You draw by choosing a tool and clicking on the grid. To erase your stitch you can right-click on the grid.

When you choose a color you choose either drawing color or background color. To choose color you click on one of the rectangles to the right, a white border will appear around the selected reclangle. The top rectangle is the draw color and the buttom one is the background color. The next step is to click the button to the right to choose your color.

The line snap tool is available for the stitch tool and the no stitch tool. The line snap can help you draw a straight line. To use it you click on a stitch and then a second stitch that is vertically or horizontally aligned with the previous one. You can add text to your recipe. To do that you click on the yellow area below the pattern grid.
