What is the Jing Project
Is Jing a product Not exactly. Is Jing a beta Well, its not exactly that either. Jing is a concept that is being evaluated to see if it can improve everyday conversations.
Determining if Jing will be a product is what we are trying to do by gathering feedback from people like you. We think its a outstanding way to improve daily conversations via email, IM chats and blog posts.
How do I use it
If youre wondering, How in the world am I ever going to use this thing called Jing then heres an explanation from Tony Dunckel, the Jing Product (err, Project) Manager:
Think of Jing as a supplement to all your chat discussions, email threads, forum posts and blog entries. It sits nicely on your desktop, ready to capture and share your stuff at a moments notice. Simply select an area of your screen, capture it as an image or record it as a video, and then click Share. Jing handyly places a URL to your content on your clipboard ready for you to paste the URL into any of your conversations.
Here are some other things to keep in mind about images and Jing:
* While editing, you can undo using Ctrl+Z on the PC and Command+Z on the Mac. To redo, use Ctrl+Y on the PC and Shift+Command+Z on the Mac.
* What you select is exactly what viewers see. Images are saved in the lossless PNG format and are not resized.
* Sharing or saving your capture will close you edit window. If you would like to open the capture to edit, share, or save again, it is located in your History. You cannot undo or redo after a capture has been shared or saved.
Heres some things to keep in mind when recording videos with Jing:
* Jing records to the SWF format at 10 FPS and has its own built-in play controls. SWF is a lossless format, so a large selection area means a larger file.
* Jing records its audio from your microphone, not the system sound you hear from your speakers.
* There is a 5 minute limit for recording video. The timer on the record panel counts down from 60 seconds after 4 minutes have elapsed, so you know exactly how much time you have left.
* Keep your audience in mind. The shorter the recording, the smaller the download.
* Dont worry about making a perfect recording. Just think of it as sending a video voicemail.
