Interlex is a free Windows application that helps you learn vocabulary in a foreign language quickly and easily. The program is built around a simple idea: first you compile a list of words and phrases, then you test yourself until you have learnt them.

The program provides targeted testing in four modes; multiple translations; color and sound; automatic keyboard and font selection; a selection of ready-to-use vocabulary files for French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish; and context-sensitive Help and daily tips.

Language learners can use Interlex to create vocabulary lists relating to literary passages, newspaper articles, specific themes (e.g. environmental issues), or problems of grammar (e.g. uses of the superlative). When testing vocabulary, Interlex analyses your responses intelligently and concentrates on words and phrases you find difficult to remember. Using Interlex for just 20 minutes a day will dramatically improve your knowledge of a language.
