Occasionally you need to check spelling in an application that does not include a spelling checker and you don't want to launch your word processor just for that. How should you do Whether you are a hunt-and-peck typist or a touch-typing power user, spelling checker will minimize your mistakes, speed up your typing, save you effort and make more efficient use of your time. On the other hand, spelling checker is a very necessary and effective tool when you are editing an important and valuable file. You don't need to find a spelling checker here and there. Here I will commend a spelling correction tools to you. That is FreeSpell which came from HCI Design. Following is the detailed introduction of this real-time spelling checker. Why not give it a try and get rid of your spelling mistakes mostly.

FreeSpell is a command line interface spell checker that uses the well known, Open Source Aspell engine to check any selected text for spelling errors and offers suggestions to correct them. The program does not have a GUI, but uses a command line window to show any errors found as well as options to correct them. A spell check requires us to simply select (highlight) the text to be checked and then use a keyboard shortcut to launch the spell checker. The program works with any application, including Microsoft Outlook, Eudora or any other program. FreeSpell is free for us and it does not contain any adware or spyware. It is a standalone software and does not need any extra software and hardware requirement. It works with most recent variants of Windows and its current version is 4.2. In addition, unlike most other spell checking tools, FreeSpell also works with selected text on a web page (not limited to form fields). If we can live without a pretty interface, and need top quality spell checking for free, give FreeSpell a try.

Following are the key features and benefits of this handy command line interface spell checker, including:

1. FreeSpell is a spell checker for any and all Windows applications. We can use it in Eudora, in Microsoft Outlook, Firefox, Visual C++, and even in Windows Explorer when renaming files (though its a little tricky to do that). In fact, anything that supports the clipboard supports FreeSpell, and all it takes is a hotkey to invoke it. FreeSpell harnesses the powerful Aspell engine to check the text we select by sending it to the Aspell console application. From there the text is automatically pasted back into our application. Aspell, by the way, is an excellent open source spellchecker from the UNIX world, which is now available as a text mode application on many different OSes, from Linux to Windows and even BeOS.

2. FreeSpell is the simplest of programs to use. Once FreeSpell is installed, we need to run FreeSpell in the background to enable spell checking - do this by double clicking on it, like any other application. The memory footprint is quite small - about 50k, since the spell checking module is loaded on demand. Just as important, FreeSpell is based upon the Aspell engine, which means it offers the best spell checker around for people with weak spelling skills (as well for people who just need a quick proofread). Aspell is full featured as well, with a large default dictionary, and custom dictionary support.

3. FreeSpell is very handy to use. Whenever we want to spell check some text, select it, and push Winkey-Z. (Note, this is the default, which we can easily change). That means we push and hold the WinKey (usually between the control and alt key on our keyboard), depress the Z key, and then release both keys. A console window will open up with the text we selected. It will offer suggestions on any misspellings FreeSpell finds. The console window closes as soon as all spelling issues are addressed, so if our text is perfectly spelled, the console window will open and then immediately close. Note that the console is a text mode program only, and does not support the mouse; select the replacement word we wish to use by entering the number or letter next to it. The corrected text will be automatically pasted back into our current application. If, by some chance this final part does not complete correctly (say the original text was deselected, such as when we invoke FreeSpell on the name of a file in Explorer), the corrected text remains in the clipboard so that we may manually insert it.

4. If we wish to use FreeSpell with Mozilla/Firefox, we need to specify a hotkey which does not include the "Alt" key. These apps do not correctly handle the Alt key at this time, however, any hotkey based on Control, Shift, Winkey, or some combination therein works fine.

With all these features, simple interface, excellent usability and free trial - why are you still reading Download the free trial now and experience how powerful and effective it is at once!
