FoxStocks is a free add-on for the Mozilla Firefox web browser that allows you to track up to 10 stocks in real time in your browser's status bar. Live Stock tickers from finance.google.com in your status bar.

Just type in the tickers in the FoxStocks options. You can even put in foreign exchange rates - e.g. to get the US Dollar in Euros, use the code USDEUR. You can have FoxStocks update the prices as often as you like. Prices and exchange rates are pulled from Google Finance's real-time quotes. (Quotes are only as up-to-date as the Google data allows for. See here for more information.)

The stocks and their prices will show up in the bottom status bar of your browser whenever you open it, updated automatically. Click on a ticker to update it immediately, hover your cursor over it to show more information, and right-click on it to remove or change it. Right-click on the FoxStocks icon to change the settings or add tickers.
