File Scavenger provides file undelete and data recovery utility for NTFS and FAT/FAT32 disk volumes on Windows.

Recover digital photos on most media, files damaged by viruses or accidentally deleted from Windows Explorer, the recycle bin, the DOS command line or a network share. Recover formatted volumes, broken spanned volumes, broken RAID volumes and disks with bad media spots. Supports file compression, dynamic disks, alternate data streams, sparse files and Unicode file names.

File Scavenger is the full-featured, award-winning data recovery application and file undeleter for NTFS volumes on Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows NT.

File Scavenger can recover files accidentally deleted, including files removed from the Recycled Bin, in a DOS window, from a network drive, from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down, provided that recovery is attempted before the files are permanently overwritten by Windows.

File Scavenger supports both basic and dynamic disks, NTFS compression, alternate data streams, sparse files, etc. Except in severe cases, both the file and the folder path leading to the file can be recovered.
With File Scavenger, files can be recovered from reformatted or corrupted volumes. This is even possible when a volume has been deleted and its original position on disk and size are unknown. Using the unique Defunct Volume Search mode, File Scavenger can scan an entire physical hard drive to look for traces of defunct volumes.

Also in this mode, files can be recovered from broken striped volumes (i.e. RAID 0 or RAID 5) provided that the component physical drives are still accessible individually. (For striped set with parity or RAID 5, one drive can be missing.)
This version is for hard drive installation.

Causes of data loss
1. Accidental deletion, removal from the Recycle Bin.
2. Corrupt disk, reformatted or deleted volume or partition.
3. Partially damaged disk with bad spots.
4. Broken RAID or spanned volume.

File Scavenger uses advanced algorithms to handle disks with bad sectors and badly corrupted partitions. It can be installed on a hard drive or run from a portable storage device such as a memory stick, removable drive, CD or floppy disk. To run File Scavenger , you must log on as a system administrator to the computer where data recovery is intended.

Files can only be restored if the disk areas allocated to the files have not been overwritten by new data. All recovered files should be validated for the integrity of the recovered data.

Features:
1. Recovers the original filename and folder path.
2. Recovers files deleted from a network share. (File Scavenger must be run on the computer where the share is defined.)
3. Recovers files deleted in a DOS command window.
4. Recovers files removed from the Recycle Bin.
5. Recovers files deleted from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down.
6. Recovers data from reformatted volumes.
7. Recovers files from deleted volumes.
8. Is especially effective in recovering digital images in JPEG format.
9. Recovers files from broken striped volumes (RAID 0 or RAID 5) or volume sets (spanned volumes).
10. Supports NTFS compression.
11. Provides English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Swedish versions.
12. Supports both basic and dynamic disks.
13. Transparently handles bad sectors when possible. Otherwise allows the user to skip ranges of bad sectors.
14. Scans badly damaged partitions.
15. Supports alternate data streams and sparse files.
16. Can search for file patterns or file types.
17. Recovers multiple files in one click.
18. Can sort files by date, size, name, type, path, etc.
19. Restores the original Create and Modified dates.
20. Supports Unicode filenames.
21. Scans very large volumes (hundreds of gigabytes) holding up to several million files or more on a computer with sufficient RAM.
22. Detects certain file types based on their data patterns, thus allowing recovery even when the file system structure is totally lost.
23. Saves a search session to a disk file for reloading later so that a drive needs not be scanned again.
24. Scans disk image files.
25. Supports FAT and FAT32, but in a limited manner due to the inherent weakness in those file systems.
