FastCheck
|
FastCheck lets you check your FastMail.FM mailbox in the background and notifies you when you receive new mails. Its main features are:
1. Works behind virtually all types of firewall/proxy (supports PAC files, authentication)
2. Can monitor several accounts and several folders per account
3. Displays a customisable message box when you receive new mails
4. Opens your favorite web browser or software when you receive new mails
FastCheck provides a subset of the functionality of most IMAP clients like Outlook Express, Mozilla, etc--specifically, it tells you when you have new mail. So, why use FastCheck instead of just an IMAP client? Well, there's lots of reasons you may find it useful:
1. If you prefer FastMail.FM's web interface to other mail clients, but want to know about new mail faster than FastMail.FM's Web Mail Poll window, FastCheck is outstanding because it provides instant notification
2. FastCheck has other advantages over the Web Mail Poll window, including checking multiple folders (rather than just the inbox), and providing audible and visual notification in the taskbar of new email
3. FastCheck is better than Outlook Express because you can quickly check *many* folders for new email, and get taskbar notification if there's new email in any one
4. If you are behind a firewall and don't have IMAP access, FastCheck can work over an HTTP proxy; so, it works anywhere that you have access to the web!
5. If you are on a PC at work where you cannot install new program (for example an email client like Outlook Express), just pop a disk with FastCheck into your floppy drive--you can run it directly from there!
FastCheck Features:
1. Folder list is automatically downloaded from FastMail.FM, so you wont make any typo!
2. You can monitor as many folders and accounts as you want!
3. If you have a direct connection to the Internet, IMAP is used to connect to FastMail.FM, which means that you will be immediatly notified of any incoming e-mail!
4. If you send yourself an email from the FastMail.FM web interface, you will often notice that you get notified before you return to your inbox!
5. If you do not have a direct connection to the Internet (typically, youre at work, behind a firewall), FastCheck still works, and automatically polls for new Email every so-often. Proxies requiring authentication are supported.
6. FastCheck system tray icon displays the number of unread messages waiting in your mailbox.
7. FastCheck configuration can be stored in the Windows registry, or in a .ini file, whose location you specify. This gives you outstandinger flexibility if you do not have administrator privileges on your machine.
8. You can tweak it and tell it to ignore certain messages, or tell you who sent you the messages... All this in any scripting language you fancy!
9. FastCheck is modest: when minimised, it hides itself in the tray bar and doesnt take any room in the task bar.
10. You can tell FastCheck to acknowledge some messages so that it doesnt keep nagging you that you havent read one message.
11. FastCheck fits on a floppy, so you can easily bring it to your favourite internet cafe.
