The Eye4Software GPS Mapping program can be used for realtime navigation or positioning, route planning and to manage your maps, waypoints, tracks and GPS routes. The program supports different types of map formats like including: GeoTIFF, AutoCad DXF/DGN files, ESRI Shapefiles, BSB nautical charts and image files like GIF, BMP, JPG, TIF and PNG files, which can be calibrated using different map projections.

Waypoint, track and route information can be uploaded and downloaded to or from a GPS receiver supporting NMEA0183 or Garmin PVT (USB), or can be exported or imported to different file formats like Garmin PCX, GPS Exchange and OziExplorer files.

Applications of this program includes (home use): Hiking, cycling, running, boating and geocaching and (professional use): Research, track and trace, survey etc.

Eye4Gps is a GPS Mapping Software package that allows you to perform a wide variaty of topographic tasks. It can be used to either manage your GPS, display maps, or navigate by using a latop or netbook. Some applications:
1. Add comments, symbols or routes to your topographic maps;
2. Manage the waypoints, tracks and routes on your GPS;
3. Perform realtime navigation on vessels, cars, trucks and construction vehicles;
4. Display recorded track-and-trace data;
5. Plan your route using a topographic map;

The program supports a wide variaty of both vector and raster formats including:
1. GeoTIFF;
2. AutoCad DXF;
3. ESRI Shapefiles;
4. BSB nautical charts;
5. JPG files, through user calibration or JGW (JPEG World File);
6. TIF files, through user calibration or TFW (TIFF World File);
7. GIF Files, through user calibration or GFW (GIF World File);
8. PNG Files, through user calibration or PGW (PNG World File);
9. BMP Files, through user calibration or BPW (BMP World File);

Some other tools and features the program offers:
1. GPS waypoints, routes and tracks up- and download;
2. Map calibration, to use your own downloaded or scanned GIF, PNG, BMP, JPG and TIF maps;
3. Great circle calculations to perform distance and bearing calculations from point to point;
4. Built in waypoint editor;
5. Built in route editor;
6. Built in track editor;
7. Calculate track and route distances (both leg and accumulated distance);
8. Skyview;
9. Dataview to display all information retrieved from the GPS device;
10. Track recorder to save all movement to a GPS track;
11. Display your position on the map realtime;

To display a part of the globe (ellips or sphere) on a display(plane), a map projection is needed to prevent distortion of the map data. The program is shipped with a database containing over 1400 predefined map projections. The following map projections are supported:
1. Transverse Mercator;
2. Oblique Mercator;
3. Mercator;
4. Oblique Stereographic;
5. Polar Stereographic;
6. Albers Equal Area Conic;
7. Lambert Conformal Conic;
8. Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area;
9. Krovak;
10. Eckert IV;
11. Eckert VI;
12. Mollweide;
13. Cassini;
14. Polyconic.

Requirements
To receive realtime GPS information, you need a NMEA-0183 compatible (D)GPS device (most GPS devices around support the NMEA-0183 protocol) attached to your computer using an USB, Bluetooth or RS232 serial connection, or a Garmin GPS device connected directly to the computer using its USB interface.
