Autodesk has provided a free DWG Viewer AutoCAD DWG TrueView for a few years now and there is a new release of it coming with the Autodesk 2010 product releases. AutoCAD DWG TrueView is based on exactly the same code as AutoCAD allowing you to view, measure, turn on/off layers, and plot just like you can in full AutoCAD.

A free stand-alone DWG viewer with DWG TrueConvert program included. Built on the same viewing engine as AutoCAD software, DWG TrueView enables you to view the latest DWG and DXF files, just as you would in AutoCAD. By also installing the free Autodesk Design Review software, you can then open DWG files in Design Review to take advantage of strong measure and markup abilities, sheet set organization, and status tracking.

Autodesk TrueView also has DWG Convert built in. From the main TrueView menu just select DWG Convert and then select all of the drawings you want to batch convert.

What Is TrustedDWG?
TrustedDWG functionality identifies DWG files that were not last saved by an Autodesk or RealDWG program licensee product.

Users have direct access to drawing files created by AutoCAD based applications for the following purposes:
1. Open and view DWG and DXF files.
2. Extract geometric information from drawings such as distance, mass and volume.
3. Plot DWG files to a plotter.
4. Create PDF, JPG, PNG, or DWFx files from DWG files.
5. Publish sets of drawings or sheets to a plotter, DWF or DWFx file.
6. Convert DWG files forward and backward with versions as early as AutoCAD Release 14.
7. Share AutoCAD drawings easily and accurately among engineers and architects.
8. Ensure the integrity and reliability of your data.
9. Add page setup information during the conversion process.
10. Use the AutoCAD eTransmit technology to bundle a complete file set for conversion

You do not need to know how to use AutoCAD to use DWG TrueView! It is helpful however to understand
how AutoCAD layers work, and how to use the page setup, plotting, and publishing dialog boxes.
