Text encryption made easy. Cryptonomy uses the clipboard as a transfer medium and is operated by using global hotkeys. It is designed to make optimum use of both system and selected hotkeys. It does not interfere with the normal usage of clipboard but it will of course replace anything already on the clipboard.

Cryptonomy will also accept a dropped text/RTF file.

Cryptonomy uses Rijndael/AES as the encryption engine with a maximum 256bit key size. Encrypted text is identified by having the prefix '[v]' and will be automatically decrypted. Encrypted text is a single string split into lines of a selectable length.

It looks first for RTF text on the clipboard then if not there, uses the text format.

There are four selectable hotkeys:
1. Hotkey 1: Copies selected text in the focused text based application to Cryptonomy.
2. Hotkey 2. Copies selected text in the focused text based application to Cryptonomy as encrypted/decrypted text.
3. Hotkey 3. Pastes the text in Cryptonomy into the focused text based application.
4. Hotkey 4. A combination of two above. It copies the selected text to clipboard where Cryptonomy encrypt/decrypts it then immediately pastes it back to replace the selected text in the focused text based application. This may not be possible or be slow with some applications.

After each hotkey action, clipboard content is cleared.

Using Cryptonomy.
Before using Cryptonomy, hotkeys must be registered. The program defaults to CTRL+1 to 4 but you may want others. Select the hotkeys to be used by placing the cursor in the relevant box then pressing the key combination required. This will register the key combination as a global hotkey and will reopen with the same hotkeys. Hotkeys will only work if Cryptonomy is running and can still be used when the application is minimized to the tray.

Select the text editor to be opened when selected from the popup menu. I suggest using one able to show RTF and plain text such as wordpad.exe.

You can set the line width of encrypted text. This is purely for visual convenience and does not effect decryption.

Set the pop-up check box if you want Cryptonomy to show when you use Hotkeys 1 or 2. If it becomes visible, focus is then passed to it. This enables you to use one of the set key combinations in Cryptonomy eg CTRL+E to send as an attachment, immediately after.

NOTES:
1. Cryptonomy is a UNICODE/PLAIN TEXT or RTF processor. It knows nothing about the many other clipboard formats so if for example the page contains graphics they will be ignored. Most document applications seem to accept either of these formats.
2. Decrypting with the wrong key string will definitely produce rubbish! There is no warning that the key string is not correct!
3. Changing an encrypted string IN ANY WAY will undoubtedly corrupt decryption.
4. Cryptonomy will start hidden with an icon in the tray. Double-click the tray icon to show/hide the main window. Minimizing the application or pressing ESC will minimize Cryptonomy to the tray.
5. The default file name for an email attachment is "Attachment.txt". If the text content is not encrypted, the .txt extension will be changed to .rtf. To change the name, add an entry in Cryptonomy.ini IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT eg Emailfile=myencrypted_file.txt". The format is important.
6. When saving to a file, text will be saved as Unicodet text if saved as a .txt file and Rich Text Format if as a .rtf file.
7. There may be some minor differences when RTF/HTML is encrypted then decrypted.

Cryptonomy is a single file application that does not require installing.
