This simulation enables the user to explore the properties and behavior of two electrical circuits with known chaotic behavior. The two circuits are Chua's circuit and an autonomous relaxation oscillator (ARO). The simulation has four modes. The user may run a circuit with either preset or user-selected initial conditions to observe the time-dependence of voltage across specific capacitors and a plot of the phase space of these capacitors' voltages against one another.

In addition, for either circuit, the user may run a bifurcation mode in which the program scans across a range of values for a chosen circuit parameter with a user-defined static set of other circuit parameters. This feature, along with periodically checking the actual behavior in the normal run mode, should assist the user in locating promising initial conditions for chaotic behavior, eliminating the need for a tedious manual search. Notes on bifurcation mode: The graph will only begin plotting after t=100 and will move to the next increment at t=200. The plotting consists of fine red dots, which may be hard to see until several appear in succession. Bifurcation plotting of the ARO depends on when the neon lamp fires. If you observe the bifurcator plotting nothing after t=100, this is because the circuit's neon lamp is not firing because the capacitor voltages have stabilized with a difference of less than 1. The user should in this case explore conditions using the circuit run mode to find more promising areas for investigation.
