Bandwidth Management and Firewall
Bandwidth Management and Firewall is tool for network administrators and professionals who needs to have control over traffic shaping, amount of transferred data and security in company network.
Soft in Engines provides network management tool - Bandwidth Management and Firewall. This product can manage data flows in company network. It is not only firewall which can to allow or prohibit communication, but mainly traffic shaper providing limitation of network speed, maximal amount of transferred data or providing priority in accessing network resources by network users.
This product belongs among the quickest firewalls in the world, it is able to manage gigabit data flows and it is great tool for ISP or companies who needs to have control over network speed and security.
Can Operate on gigabit network speed !
Reservation or limitation of bandwidth for protocols Ethernet,IP,TCP,UDP,ICMP,DNS,passive FTP, HTTP, P2P
Stateful Inspection Firewall for protocols TCP,UDP,ICMP,DNS
DoS Attack Protection
Fair Usage Policy, Data Quotas
Maximal Number of connections per client
Shaping of HTTP connections by URL
TCP/UDP content filtering
Performance monitor output
Differences between lite distributed in the past and contemporary full product version:
Support for multiprocessor machines, dual-core and hyperthreading processors.
Fair Usage Policy features:
a) Counters for transferred data are automatically reset in dedicated monthday, weekday or dedicated hour in every day.
b) When filter reaches assigned data amount then bandwidth can be decreased, notification mail can be sent or command line can be started. After reseting counters original bandwidth is restored.
c) Contemporary version supports two levels of FUP events.
a) Dynamic network address and port translation.
b) Accessing LAN services from internet by statical mapping ports from public interface to LAN IP:port.
c) Reserving ports which will not be translated for accessing services running directly on gateway, for example VPN which cannot to use NAT.
d) NAT-ing by private source IP.
e) There is option to automatically choose public IP for NAT. It is important mainly for dial-up connections.
Packet filtering on public NAT interface by private IP addresses.
ICMP filtering by ICMP types.
When filter settings or rules in filter are edited then reseting TCP connection is not performed when apply configuration so for example you can in run-time change bandwidth limit without aborting all existing TCP connections. In Lite version after applying new configuration always are all TCP connection reset.
Log can contain more than 80 items
Maximal allowed number of TCP connections per client
Performance monitor can display or log for every filter: transferred, dropped data and current flow
Displaying TCP and UDP connections managed by firewall
Passive FTP protocol
TCP/UDP content filtering
Shaping of HTTP connections by URL
Packet filtering by ethernet protocol provides checkboxes for filtering broadcasts and multicasts.
TCP and UDP filtering by list of ports.
IP filtering by list of IP addresses.
Support for tracert command in Statefull inspection firewall
Copying of filters
Exporting log to text format
List of main functions and features:
Operation speedThe goal of this product is operation speed. It is developed for using on gigabit networks and it is able to filter packets on full speed of fast ethernet and higher. For example it is able to check thousands IP addresses without degrading possible flow of fast ethernet.
This is achieved with help of implementing functions in kernel-mode. Windows kernel is able to process tasks with speed comparable with real mode systems. The result of this design is that usable maximum of configuration items is dependent mostly on power of your hardware, and not on number of items in configuration like in many contemporary firewalls.Dynamic reserving of bandwidth By placing Bandwidth Management and Firewall on gateway from LAN to internet you may to reserve bandwidth for some computer or group of computers on your LAN or to reserve bandwidth for some network service. The reservation is dynamic, that is mean if chosen computer does not not use internet then reserved bandwidth is utilized by other computers. If chosen computer begins to transfer some data Bandwidth Management and Firewall reserves bandwidth for that computer and throttles other network traffic. Bandwidth reservation is possible to set by header fields of protocols: Ethernet, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP.Bandwidth limitingBandwidth Management and Firewall allows to limit bandwidth for some computer or group of computers comunicating from or to internet or to limit bandwidth for some network service. In this case computer or service with limited bandwidth can not exceed assigned limit.
It contains stateful inspection for mostly used internet protocols and thus it provides also firewall functionality. It is suitable tool for internet service providers or companies who needs network management tool on Windows platform.
High speed capacity gets under control thousands of clients and TCP connections.
BMF configuration consists of filters. With help of packet filtering or stateful protocol information is set bandwidth limit, dynamic bandwidth reserve, Fair Usage Policy data quotas or prohibiting of network traffic. Every defined filter can operate on full-duplex/half-duplex mode and it provides dividing of outgoing/incoming speed by chosen ratio. Network traffic caught by filter is determined by addresses of communicating peers or by patterns in transferred packets. All product functionality is contained in one installation package which can be deployed on Windows gateway from company network to internet, on Windows server or on Windows ethernet bridge. Deploying BMF is transparent for network clients, there is no need to set QoS and no need to install some client software. Deploying on dedicated computer operating as Windows ethernet bridge provides simple solution if there is not possible to install BMF directly on gateway. Supported protocols: Ethernet, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DNS, Passive FTP, HTTP, P2P. Other features: NAT, Maximum of TCP/UDP connections per client, DoS attack protection, support for displaying and logging filter data flows in Performance Monitor graphs and logs. BMF contains DHCP server based on ISC DHCP server which provides very good compatibility with DHCP standards.
