View GIS files with this tool. ArcGIS Explorer is a free, downloadable GIS viewer that gives you an easy way to explore, visualize, and share GIS information. ArcGIS Explorer adds value to any GIS because it helps you deliver your authoritative data to a broad audience.
With ArcGIS Explorer, you can
1. Access ready-to-use ArcGIS Online basemaps and layers.
2. Fuse your local data with map services to create custom maps.
3. Add photos, reports, videos, and other information to your maps.
4. Perform spatial analysis (e.g., visibility, modeling, proximity search).
ArcGIS Explorer Key Features:
1. Easy and intuitive to use-it's easy for anyone to begin working with ArcGIS Explorer, with its intuitive and easy-to-use ribbon user interface that presents tools in the context of how you use them. Tools including integrated tool tips and Help.
2. Choose your Basemap-The Basemap Gallery allows you to choose from a variety of ready-to-use basemaps so you can get started quickly. Select from ArcGIS Online basemaps such as World Imagery, World Streets, World Topographic Maps, or choose a Bing Map service (Aerials, Hybrid, and Roads). You can also create your own basemaps and add them to the Gallery. Toggle basemaps on the fly while maintaining your operational layers.
3. Add local data such as geodatabases, shapefiles, KML/KMZ, GPX, and raster formats (JPEG 2000, GeoTIFF, MrSID). You can also add layer files and packages created using ArcGIS Desktop, or add locations from your spreadsheets.

ArcGIS Explorer is ready to use and connects directly to ArcGIS Online, which powers the default map, basemaps, and tools you use. Though you don't need ArcGIS Server, you can extend the maps and abilities of ArcGIS Explorer by authoring and publishing your own maps and layers via ArcGIS Server or by authoring geoprocessing tools, which can extend the ArcGIS Explorer abilities via add-ins.
ArcGIS Explorer can be customized in a variety of ways, many of which do not require programming. First, you can individuate the software by changing color schemes and the behavior of various aspects of the application, choosing tools to appear on the Quick Access toolbar, and changing the location of windows such as Content.
Application configurations allow you to easily control the user experience by having centrally managed configurations that allow controlling the tools, basemaps, startup banner, and other aspects of ArcGIS Explorer.
