Here I will recommend a popular and excellent word processing tool to you. That is AbiWord which came from SourceGear Corporation. Want to know how excellent this word processing is Why not come on with me and try it yourself now!

AbiWord is a free word processing program similar to Microsoft Word. It is suitable for typing papers, letters, reports, memos and any other document. The program has an attractive, professional interface and all the features we need. In addition, it offers various plug-ins that can be added to further enhance the functionality. Currently available plug-ins include several imaging tools, encyclopedia, Babelfish translation, scripting support and various others. AbiWord comes with a built-in spell checker, auto-text macros, save as web page option and much more. Overall, AbiWord is a very nice and well established open-source alternative to commercial word processing programs.

The key functions and advantages of this open-source word processing include:

1. AbiWord is developed as an Open Source project. That means the lines of code that comprise AbiWord are freely available and re-distributable. Unlike proprietary software, code that is written and often kept secret by a select few, Open Source projects like AbiWord give away the code and the software is thus subjected to thorough peer review by programmers all over the world.

2. AbiWord can load and save files in many different formats. The parts of the program that load the files are known as importers, and those that save them as exporters. Most of AbiWord's importers and exporters are plug-ins, and information about the file formats they handle can be found in the plug-in documentation. Making the importers and exporters available as plug-ins means that we only need to install the ones that we want to use. Since AbiWord plug-ins can handle some rather specialized file formats, we are unlikely to need all of them.

3. AbiWord has a multiple single document interface, or MSDI. This is most easily explained by comparison with the multiple document interface, or MDI, and single document interface, or SDI. In applications that use the MDI, there is one window with toolbars and menus, and all documents open within that window. Hence, there are multiple documents within one interface. In applications that use the SDI, on the other hand, every document has its own window, with its own toolbars and menus, and there is no link between the documents.

4. AbiWord's MSDI combines the two. Each document has its own window, with its own menus and toolbars, but all open AbiWord documents know about each other. Thus, the Window menu allows us to switch to any other AbiWord document, and the Quit command on the File menu closes all open AbiWord documents. The Close command, however, only closes the document with which we are currently working. If this is the last open document, AbiWord's normal behavior is to open a new, empty document in the same window. This option can be turned off in the preferences, so that closing the last open document closes the application. Note that using the close box at the top right of the window will always close the window, even if it contains the last open AbiWord document.

5. Sections in AbiWord are groups of paragraphs. We can find instructions on how to insert them in the documentation on the Break Dialog. This document contains further information on how they work. Sections contain paragraphs, but may not contain other sections. The header and footer of a document are both sections, and the body text forms at least one section. By inserting section breaks, we can split the body text into more than one section.

6. The formatting properties of a section can be changed, just as the properties of a paragraph can. The properties which go with sections include page margins, page numbering, and the number of columns. All the paragraphs within the section will be laid out according to the section properties. The break between sections may not be a page break. If it is not, it is still possible to set different page margins for the different sections. These margins will apply to the parts of the page on which the paragraphs contained by the section are laid out.

7. AbiWord supports spell checking in many languages, and allows us to have different parts of a single document in different languages. AbiWord supports both the GNU Aspell (previously called Pspell) and Ispell spell checkers. Which one is used is determined at compile-time, so if we're downloading a binary, one of these has been selected for us. GNU Aspell and Enchant are easiest to use on Unix platforms currently, so if we're not running on Unix, we're almost certainly using Ispell. Of course, we can only spell-check words if we have the dictionary for that particular language installed.

8. Lastly, AbiWord is completely free and multi-platform. It functions as a native application for Linux (X11), Linux (GNOME), Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP, QNX, and MacOS X "Cocoa".
